Ramtek is one of the major places of interest in the city. The popularity of this place of Nagpur is to a great extent owing to the myths and legends that are associated with the place. Ramtek of Nagpur is situated at a distance of 57 kms from the city of Nagpur in Maharashtra.

Ramtek is also called Ramgiri, as is mentioned in the written documents of Kalidasa, a renowned poet who wrote in Sanskrit. The most important aspect of the place of Ramtek at Nagpur is the celebrations and religious activities that are held here on the auspicious occasion of Ramnavami. Such religious events of Ramtek are mainly centered at the temple located here called the Rama Temple.

The place of Nagpur called Ramtek is considered as one of the holy places of the state of Maharashtra. This is because this region is supposed to have been visited by the legendary figure of Rama, who is one of the most significant and popular characters associated with the myths of the Hindu religion. Actually, Lord Rama is one of the leading characters in the epic of Ramayana. Rama is believed to have been accompanied by his wife Sita on his trip to Ramtek in Nagpur. The mythical association of the place with Rama has given Ramtek its current name.
